This looks like a great place to explore! I hope you can get the focus issue under control.

I might stand a little to the left to get put the gas-pump a little less "end on". Also, that would give you less of the road.

Try for a timing when there are either no cars or distant cars on the road. I think this works better if you don't see a modern car in the image. The way this one is, it is pretty good since the cars are so far away.

I photographed this place on the way home from OBX several years ago. I didn't have much time to give it, framed it up on intuition, took a quick meter reading, and exposed. It's one of my favorite images.
