6th Avenue, 1984

My first trip to NYC in 1984 taken from the driver's seat of our rental car. I vividly remember the excitement and electricity of that moment.

Nice shot. Reminded me of the TV series: Hill Street Blues. Is has the same atmosphere. Even the same period, I guess?

The details are a bit hazy now. I was on a short assignment with IBM at Tarrytown with my wife and 10 month old son. September 1984. We were 26. Seems very young now. I think we drove from White Plains over the Tappan Zee through NJ and had lunch at a greasy spoon diner on Staten Island and approached Manhattan from the South via the Verrazano-Narrows bridge. Got to Manhattan mid-afternoon. Pre-GPS, driving on the "wrong side", baby in the back seat. It was an adventure.
