I think you are proving that the common knowledge that Velvia or for that matter any other slide film is not ideal for portraits unless appropriate filtering is applied. I would love to see the same images taken with Portra 400 for comparison.
My biggest issue was the slowness of the film and having to shoot full open aperture to get a decent exposure - filtering not so much. What do you mean exactly? The flashes were daylight balanced (except the backlight, which is obviously gelled golden yellow)...
The skin tone is much to red to be even close to natural, maybe that is what you intended it to be, then it is fine. I have always felt that slide film tend to enhance the red to much for natural looking skin and therefore not ideal for portraits.
