Textured Elevator-Blue

I would agree that the texture screens are too strong and once the viewer realises what the background consists of, the photo loses its impact. The other observation I would make is where your prime photo has bright areas in it e.g. clouds, the texture fails to show through . For this this reason your last loaded photos work better. It is an interesting experiment and I'm sure if you keep at it your results will get better. I'll watch with interest. Of course I hasten to add this is just my opinion on your first results.
