Traded some C-41 I had for some Tri-X Pan Professional (the old stuff in the paper wrapper.

I was a little disappointed in the results, the film was HEAVILY fogged, even though the sender had claimed he tested the film. I should have asked for examples of the tests, ah well, we learn, I guess it's better than holding onto the Portra I traded for that I wasn't going to use, still, I knew that was at least good.

They scanned ok but the base was super dark, darker than any other film I've ever developed including the Verichrome from 1947... sheesh!

No you shouldn't have responded to this haha, I know it wasn't your fault hence the anonymous vague reference to 'someone" haha silly, I know you didn't do it on purpose.

Sorry for thread-jacking, I just wanted to make sure you knew I was responding.How much did you have to monkey with the scan to get it to look like this? It looks pretty good in this web res version, fairly contrasty though that may be the use of good glass?

I just had to severely alter all the points, I'm not super experienced with scanner lingo, but the auto scan judges the "scene" and then sets the points for correct exposure of the scan. I know the exposure itself is fine as I looked at the negs, and at this point I cant recall what I did, but I know I had to mess with the numbers a lot, like drag sliders around, normally if I move anything, it's VERY slight, but this was like severe adjustment. B&W negs have a large range thank goodness, I can just snap a pic of the negs if you want to PM me I can use my cell phone and you can see how the fogging looks. I'm not an optical printer though I want to learn some day when I have the space for a darkroom area, but I've read often that people who have really fogged film have a hard time printing it. I just had to adjust the white and dark points and the mid tone points to get it to look normal-ish. I should have made a scan of it as is to show the difference I guess, but I didn't.

Hmmm. All this is too technical for me but I like the image very much!
