Functioning Abandonment

I was a little unhappy with this shot, I meant for it to be exposed slightly less, giving more dark tones to the wood in the foreground, but I was also trying to expose and give some shadow detail to the dark red building in the back, so I compromised, it's not terrible, but I feel I could have done better...

The fascination with what is perceived as abandonment vs what is actually an abandoned place or person or situation is of interest to me lately, that house was just collapsing, yet it was obvious from the cars in the driveway (to the left out of frame) that this was a functioning living place for some person/people. It really is an interesting thought to understand what people are willing to and accepting of living in when we have a different lifestyle than they do.

Shots from my trip to VT... my GF was very patient... but her patience did seem a little thin...

The textured fence post and barbed wire are very dramatic, but the "abandoned" house has emotional impact as well. Could it be you have two images here, each with its own importance?

Great shot. What is your secret to hand holding that big RZ at 1/60 and still getting such clean focused shots?

Mostly a LOT of practice, I also used to shoot guns as a kid and there's a breathing technique where you take 2 full breaths in then breathe out and when you've finished that's when you fire as you're motionless but your blood is the most oxygenated so your hands aren't shaking, if you wait more than 1 second though the blood/oxygen ratio lowers and you start shaking again, if you fire before you've let out a breath or are breathing in, you're libel to shake more as your chest is expanding/contracting. THIS particular shot, unlike all the others, I actually was crouching and rested the RZ on my knee, but then there was the keeping my knee still while crouching which wasn't easy either... I just take my time, I watch how my movement and breathing affects the viewfinder movement and wait till I appear still and fire quickly before I move. Hope that helped.
