I like the window glare (and the reflection in the pond), to me it's like van gogh's cypress trees, which to me seems apt since this building is an art gallery
I'm liking the square/rectangle motif in your latest prints. Does this intentionally tie in with your pier prints? Together the group make a strong set. Tom
Hi Tom. I have been shooting a lot of 6X6 lately and it see how it has affected my sense of composition. The pier prints were a separate series from these, but some of the elements continue to resonate in what I feel are lessons I have recently learned. I love symmetry and 6X6 really gives me a confined box in which to exercise that - the box gives me freedom. I printed out a series from the piers and lakes that had matching horizons and other points of interest. I have also been spending a lot of time thinking about framing, composition, perspective and using my tripod. So I set out to shoot subjects with strict perspective and symmetry and trying to get things right, balanced and straight on a technical level. Even though we sometimes look at a picture and it pleases us, we are not sure why until we think more about it an analyse it. So I go for minimalist images with as few elements as possible, I want the detail to be hidden in plane sight - whether it be of a figurative or technical nature. This picture was my first attempt at 4X5 and I was interested in trying to use the whole frame and to get all the lines straight and the composition balanced. I was pleased with the results, even though the lens could have been better (there is some fall off in the bottom corners) and the choice of film and development could have been better.I feel that my journey is taking me on another learning curve which is exciting. Many thanks for looking and commenting.
