Gaustatoppen

21 August 2012: Gaustatoppen (1883m), a peak in the South of Norway, seen from Hardangervidda; in the foreground is a nameless (to me at least) small lake at 1161m.

My first four prints on Fomatone 131, all of this same negative, but toned differently: untoned, toned in selenium 1+4 15min, selenium 1+10 3min, Viradon New 1+24 4min.

This print: Viradon New 1+24 4min, dried on a hot metal plate (high gloss).

I like the strongly toned selenium print most. Of course the possibilities are endless.

This is my favourite colour-wise and it seems to have the most detail in the land beyond the water but this might be the scan.

Among the scans this is my favourite also, however in real life the selenium 1+4 toned version is more appealing, to me. One of the attributes of Viradon New seems to be that it lifts the shadows- opposite to what selenium does. In this case that lightening of the land parts helps give depth to the image. The selenium version(s) show less shadow detail but I still like those in their own right. Thanks for your comment pentaxuser.

Unrelated: those 'blobs' in the top are a scanning artefact- the print is slightly too tall for the scanner surface, thus creating room for Newton-like interference where the print is off the glass.
