I've been using liquid emulsions, on textured watercolor paper, for my nude series. Occasionally, my coatings are no good (especially on the large 16x20 papers). Rather than throw the poor ones away, I save them to test paint colors. The other day, I saw all of these abstract shapes (in the first one I posted), and decided to complete the abstract, filling in the grays with color. I found it interesting, so did another, and another... This one is part of a large nude reject. I knew the body shape was there, so I used pencil to graph her body. I paint the squares with oils, using Q-tips, wiping them in with cotton balls. I used a deep blue for the negative space to give it a night sky feel. I like the balance between the pos/neg space in this one.
