Fuji Velvia is Magically Making Me a Better Artist

Well, after the last few images I posted, I mentioned I'd be developing and posting some BandW and C-41. Apparently I need the Fuji Fairies to come sprinkle their pixel dust on my film because all those photos....umm... sucked.

I live fairly close to Lake Tahoe and couple weeks back noticed some action in the sky that looked promising so I loaded a Velvia into my RB67 and headed up to the lake. I got there later than I would have liked so only took three exposures. I used a new (to me) warming polarizer and 2 stop grad and really didn't do that great of a job getting the exposure right. This is a +1 bracket. The light was fading really fast and I had forgotten a watch and was using a spot meter. This was about a 40 Mississippi exposure.

The other exposures are really unusable.

Nice rocks and excellent exposure in both FG and sky. The only exposure quibble I have is that I'd move the grad up so as to not darken the land on the right.
AHA! I couldn't figure out why the light died off like that. I was thinking that there must have been some weird cloud shadow or something. It was so dark I couldn't really see through the WLF very well and I must have set my grad too low. Thanks for the insight!

To get an idea of where the changeover point is, cut a piece of clear plastic the same size as the filter and mark it with a permanent pen where the change over point is (usually the middle). When composing, use your dummy filter to show you where the crossover point will appear then replace it with the actual filter put to the same height.Steve.
