Aspirations

Very nice, I like the concept of the repeating spires. As I see it here on my monitor I might like just a little more hint of detail in the trees toward the lower left, but I can easily imagine the print may look better on that score. A scanner plus a monitor between my eyes and someone's print seldom results in an optimum visual connection! I have found printing my IR negatives to be more frustration than I expected on my last few attempts, largely due to very high brightness ratios. Maybe I need to rethink my handling of the film exposure/development end. (And I have a print session in the queue as I e-speak.) DaveT

Hi Dan I think this works very well and you were right to use IR to take the shot. While I can see that you managed to retain detail in the shadows, I might be inclined to print for an extra half stop or so just to boost the contrast range. When reading your concept in taking the photo what occurred to me was, why you didn't move more to your left so as to isolate the side of the church and its trees which would then be echoed by the steeple against the black sky.But of course this is how I might approach the photo and thank goodness we are all different when it comes to photography.

Vincent and Dave: thank you for your comments; they are appreciated. Vincent: I did originally place the camera more to the left, but the tallest tree was then directly beneath the steeple, which seemed to upset the rhythm that I was attempting to capture.
