Pueblo Bonito, Chaco Cayon

One of the most spectacular ruins in the southwest. Finally realized that the shot farthest away was my favorite.

My family went here. It's distant, as befits a fabled city, and the day we went it was scorching. Beautiful. I believe Chaco is the only place in the country where you may still walk through the very rooms in which the Pueblo people lived. That might not be the case forever, to look up and see 900 year old soot on the ceilings from their cooking fires. (I know, you Europeans, you have park benches older than that. But Chaco is still a very special place and the French and German tourists I spoke with seemed to agree.)Very nice raking light. I don't think the light there is ever soft.
