The face is spot-on and I like the pensive look. This shot says the person isn't concerned with posing or pleasing the photographer. It portrays a spirited person.Pity the dress looks blurred down the person's right hand side. I presume that the depth of field was very small. Maybe too small to keep the whole figure in focus which I think would have looked better.
 
With all respect, I disagree. This is an excellent portrait for all the reasons stated above, and I think the shallow DOF emphasizes a very expressive face and body language. Would love to see more LF portratiture like this! Thanks for posting.
 
I remember this shot being referenced during a discussion of some of Kerik's work. Great swirly bokeh makes this nice portrait even nicer. I think a sharp version of this would just be really boring. I want to see more please.
 
Dark tones and soft focus suggest mystery and vulnerability. A mother protecting her young from the unknown just beyond the fence behind her.
a fine image, everything works together perfectly.
