This is a photograph of a large glass plate at the RAF Duxford airfield in Cambridgeshire, England, now part of the Imperial War Museum. The plate is one of a number which form a perimeter at the rear of the American Museum building. The plates have etched on them a representation of each American aircraft that took off from airfields in Britain and was lost on operational sorties. There are around 7000 aircraft represented in the display.
And polish, french, dutch, tzech, aussies, kiwies... so many took off from Britain. I'm sorry to forget other nationalties.
Too many deads on both sides.
