I don't think the lamppost itself distracts, but the people standing behind it do. Maybe because they are right behind it. Not sure they would have left before your grandson took off, though! Other than that, a nice moment.

I think the two people, having no apparent connection with the boy adds to the sense of isolation surrounding him. If the lamppost had not bisected them it might have been better.
