Miyajima Torii at Night

One of two images for the current postcard exchange.

Usually, when I'm in Miyajima, the tide is in for the evening shots, but on this occasion I was able to get a few rolls off at low tide. By the end however, I was ankle deep in water and seaweed!

a TRULY SUPERIOR SHOT. eXCELLENT WORK. wHAT LENS, PLease.... damn keyboard gets stuck on caps... sorry. Really like this. If Bronica was still in business, they'd buy this for advertising. This is wonderful work. Congratulations!!!!! Logan

Thanks for your comments Logan! I think it's the 50mm PS but it could be the 80mm (!). I do have some more interesting shots but unfortunately they suffer from a lot of flare due to me not using a lens hood (which I should know better by now!).

What is the illumination in this shot? Setting sun, or artificial lights? It's certainly a striking photograph.

Artificial lights -- there are a few big spotlights that are trained on the gate from about sunset onwards. You can see a little bit of the remaining sunset in the breaking clouds behind the gate.

This is so beautiful! Did you spend the night in Miyayima? Or is there a ferry late in the day?

@Hekoru The ferries run until 10-10:30 p.m. if I recall correctly (but even later for big events like the fireworks festival, and of course it runs all night over new years). I've never stayed overnight, mostly because all the accommodation was booked out when I went, and because it's pretty pricey (mostly ryokans, no real budget places). But the sun goes down fairly early in Japan, even in the summer, so it's possible to get these kinds of shots. In fact, I shot this just after sunset, as you can see there is still light in the sky where the clouds are breaking. I like shooting around this time since most day-trippers are gone, and those who are staying are at dinner, so you don't have to worry about the crowds so much. I used to live in Hiroshima so visited Miyajima quite often, and it's still one of my go-to places when I go back for a visit.
