If you were to crop out the bottom strip where we see the water, we would not know how high up he is from the water, that unknown might add something. I rarely crop my work so take my comment w a grain of salt as I struggle to crop sometimes...

Since you bring the crop up and since the artist asks for suggestions , I agree with you and I would go a step more and crop the sky in the top left ...just my 2c i think it would bring the viewer back to the subgect , in this case it's beautiful light
