These 2 images complete the series on the funeral of my friend's father, a retired Marine Corps colonel. I delayed posting them because of the presence of family members who I was able to crop out of all the others. A year has passed and the wounds have mostly healed.
Given the times and the prevailing climate of the 60's/70's I doubt that CSNY had an image like this in mind when composing their song with this title. However, I believe it is perfectly applicable in 2012.
Dan, I lived through the times when this song was written and believe this is exactly the image Stephen Stills had in mind. He was from a military family and it is said he wrote this after visiting a US Civil War battlefield. If it wasn't the guys in the flag-draped coffins, just who was doing all the dying?
This is very powerful. Was there a split second when the young girl was looking at the coffin? If so that would have been the perfect time to shoot, conveying the link between the generations. pentaxuser

She was pretty amazed by the whole thing and did a lot of looking around throughout the ceremony and held close to her father and little brother. It was nearly silent at this time. There really was nothing going on to the left - I don't know why she and the preacher in the background both looked that way at the same time. It would have been nice to catch it as you suggest, but I was really conscious of the camera noise and took only 11 exposures, 9 being posted here.Edit: I must have taken 12. I see 10 posted. There were two more, one that was just a bad exposure and one that didn't move the narrative.
