Snowblown Tree

I thought I'd get in some practice printing winter scenes with a neg from last winter. The sky was actually that colour as a snowstorm had just passed, then there was a break in the clouds which gave this tree some wonderful texture.

Hey! I remember that photo - it was one of your first eh? I also seem to remember the snow being all white with little texture???? (maybe I'm wrong) This time the snow shows a definite "sticky" quality and the melting is obvious on the bench. It looks good.

Thanks John. You have a good memory! Yes I posted this up way back around january or February I think. Since I started enlarging I have come to realise how poor a neg scan is next to an actual print! I have been going back through many negs I had written off as not being very good.

Andy, a well-printed negative. This really does look good with respect to textures and values. Funny how dark the shadows can be and still look like snow. If you are getting these results now, perhaps it is time for some graded fiber? It will have a better depth, but requires a bit more time in printing and washing. tim

I dunno Tim..... Maybe Andy should just skip right to 8x10 (or larger) and AZO contact prints ??? He's gonna get there eventually anyway. hehehe
