As legend has it, the Great Stone of Fourstones was dropped by the devil whilst on his way to build Devil's Bridge (Nr Kirky Lonsdale). It sits on the Lancashire/Yorkshire boundary. Some of the graffiti dates back to 1600. Some enterprising souls have carved steps up its side. I caught this rather folrlorn snowman sleeping whilst on watch back in 1990.
Surreal That's the word for it. The best surrealism always looks normal until you look closer. A lone snowman survives where there is practically no other snow and is massive in relation to the rock which has steps in it but is in the middle of nowhere?
This one starts a conversation which rapidly becomes a court of inquiry. Is it real or a film set? I love it.
I enjoy the humor and somewhat ancient feel of this. A statement can be said that all artifacts even stone artifacts are temporary and only significant in a very small window of temporal experience.
