Morning Fog on Mountain Trail

While hiking in the Sandia Mountiains near our home, I happend upon this scene. The light was constantly changing, so I had very little time to set up my camera. I just focused on the largest trees, metered one of them, set that reading on Zone IV and fired away. Within seconds the light was gone.

There is flare on the upper left that I tried to print down and the upper section is fairly soft. But I like the feel of the overall image. I will probably try an unsharp mask and perhaps a Shadow Contrast Increase Mask on this image later this week.

Any comments will be appreciated.

Beautiful lighting , nice recession of tones, as you say, the image needs some strengthening particularly at the top left, but whatever it needs it's an excellent shot well worth the effort required to make it truly outstanding.

Something about photographs like this always have a spot in my heart. Good shot, and good printing, I would like to see it if you improve it.

Nice feel to this photo. It was probably take within a couple of hundred yards from my 'Fall at 10,500 feet' that I posted last night. I find it interesting that, in a world-wide forum such as this, two photos can be posted from two people in such a short time that is from nearly the same spot. And from the light snow dusting, it looks like the photos were taken no more than a day or two apart.

Thanks for the comments and words of encouragement.

Brian, nice to see others attracted to the incredible weather conditions we had last week. I grew up in this area and remember as a kid thinking of it as "a lot of road with nothing between rodeos". Now in middle age after a 30 year absence, my passion for images has made me see NM as a whole new place.

Thanks again for your kind words.

very nice. i love the rays of light penetrating the forest canopy. Can you print one with the bright white area at the top cropped off. I scrolled the photo so that it is just out of the frame and it appealed to me a bit more. But still a very nice photograph, and one for the wall.
