Jack

Jack

I captured this image back in May and struggled to print it as the contrast of the neg was pretty low and under exposed. Having tried various papers I decided to lith print it and this is the result.

Jack is my nephew and was attending a steam traction engine rally as my brother runs the traction engine that has been in our family since the late 19th century. Jack was covered in soot and looked like a modern interpretation of a Victorian street urchin. Using a vintage camera gave a nice feel to the image and I had to guess the exposure and focal distance before he moved! I got the exposure a little wrong but the focal distance isn't bad.

Like the final image with all its imperfections. The pose, with the boy looking slightly upward-left and the turned head, also reminds me of paintings of putties and gods and stuff like that which you see in classical paintings, nice...

All in all this is quite nice ... and does have a classic painting look ...

Holy moly, what a fantastic picture.
The contrast between the inside of the hood and his facial profile is perfect.
