You are off to great start! So don't let those chemicals and paper go bad - print and share some more. The shallow depth of field really works well here.
I am really a big fan of selective focus when used properly. One needs to pay particular attention to composition when employing selective focus. While the feel of this image is quite good, I feel that the right side of this image is a bit vacant. Shifting the foreground apple to the right side so that the lit portion of the apple has a better foundation will give the image more balance and at the same time entice the viewer with just a bit of intrigue in the lower right. You probably wanted to display some of that nice highlight in this corner as well. A slight passive reflector, such as a piece of white paper off frame, woud accomplish this as you shift the apple to the right as previously mentioned.
Thanks for your feedback everyone. I agree with Scott that the right side is messed up looking, it's kind of hard to tell that the apple in the back is an apple. I will be making another trip to the darkroom this week and will post my results here.
