John , two pipes. Are there too many of them at US ? I found a German site which sells last engines from Mexico Factory New ! 1800 a piece. We have big automobile industry here , FIAT , Renault , Toyota , Hyundai , Honda , Mercedes , Man , Mitsubishi Factories and thousands of modifiers who are expert on volkswagen. And there is Beetle Lovers Club which organizers of picniks , Turkey tours. I am sure there is an US club there. I love the interior of these cars very much , very much German. I love the new Beetles also , they feel good.

That Sonnar gives very punchy colour. My daughter has a '72 Beetle, but hers is pink!

Tony , Your daughter is very lucky , Pink beetle is very beatiful. This camera is something unreliable , there are too much examples that it does not perform well , I guess it wants Ektachrome 100 vs. There are lots of non perfect working things on the camera and its repair cost is 200 dollars !

there are still a few, mostly "enthusiasts" like in your country,
but it seems there aren't as many here as there used to be ...
i had a 72 flat windshield ( regular beetle )
and later on a 73 super beatle --- 2 tailpipes, curved windshield
this one in the photograph is a 73 super, it looks like "mag-wheels",
not the standard 5 lug hub they threw me off
i asked about the tailpipe because after 1973 they reverted to 1 tail pipe.

1800 for a new engine ? is it a rebuild ? no shipping?
there are companies here in the states that sell stock and rebuilt engine parts.
i haven't priced/worked on anything like that in 20+ years, i remember i bought
a "top end" ( full head+ valves ) back in 1985 for $300 USD it was pretty inexpensive ...
they are fun to work on, and easy to fix ... nothing like that nowadays, too computer driven

great little cars, i wish i still had mine ... but they both ended up a pyre.
maybe someday ... i'll get a squareback or a ghia ragtop ... and only drive it on sundays
on country roads
