Ice Form, Hell's Hollow Falls

4x5 silver contact print

Revisiting an older neg with a... more aggressive printing style, I guess. Instruction sheet can be seen at:

There's some lovely smooth greys in the background here showing on my monitor and despite your detailed manipulations the final print doesn't look 'printed'. Great work and thanks for sharing your instruction sheet.

Nice ice! The juxtaposition of the (literally) frozen ice against the blurred forms of the moving water invites philosophical reflection, making this, for me, much more than just a well composed and executed image of nature. One of your best, IMHO.

Thanks so much, fellows! It was a very beautiful moment full of the reflection you mention, Jon. =)

Tony, I think it was the mask I refer to burning with that saved it for me. I just dried a print, cut out the ice form and taped it into a piece of dark paper. Much of the manipulations were done to 'smooth' things out. I'm glad it comes across that way.

With my first interpretation (a year or two ago) I left the ice too "white" - so that you couldn't see the water it was laden with, barely frozen... and it was a bit distracting I think. This is closer to what it actually looked like, not that it matters I suppose.

Just great! I saw your link with the instructionsheet, thanks for sharing with us Shawn.

Thanks so much fellows. This neg was a bit of a challenge but worth it in the end I think. I'm trying to limit myself to prints of one or two negs in a session and as a result I believe I'm pushing a little further and achieving better results.
