Curtains

I made this picture back in 2007, and never printed it. I think I was more interested in the pictures where the kids weren't engaged with the camera. Been looking through my negs lately, and decided this would be worth a print. Scanned from a print that's a little bit bigger than my scanner, so the bottom is cropped. You can see a bit more of the baseball pj's he's wearing in the print. Comments are always appreciated.

I think you've captured something very special about this boy. Are his hands cut off in the print? Great job in any case.

The hands were out of the picture... they're not on the neg, and it was a conscious decision on my part to come in a little closer, cropping his hands. A no, no, I know, but I think it works here. (And I'm not one to cut hands off very frequently, as I think they can be extraordinarily expressive), but I was taken by the gesture of his torso and arms when I made this. Thanks for the comments.

thank you for digging through your negatives to share this treasure with us !

i hope you find more unprinted gems

Very nice, Suzanne...great job in seeing his expression and in the printing. Love the RZ at a wide aperture for portraits like this...not easy to do kids photography with it, especially hand-held (a beast at 6 pounds)!!!

very intimate and he seems quite engaged with the shooter .... wonderful Suzanne

Agree with all the others - this is beautiful at emotional, aesthetic and technical levels. Thanks for sharing! Just curious - were the curtains white, or off white, closer to the skin-tone value?
