First Client on Film - and it's boudoir, of course.

Both taken with Hasselblad 500CM with 120 Makro/Planar on Expired Delta 100 (was a mix up by me, DUH!) and developed in ID11. Negative scan on V700. Honestly, do these do anything for ya?

This is wonderful , does this do anything? ....sure does, I love this ! What does it for me is the minimal feel .

Yes, you are right about the flat light. I was trying to avoid something on the wall, and thought that the flat light with the minimal appearance, and it being mostly white would work. Maybe more contrast when printed? We will see ...

I'm totally ok with the flat lighting for this one. I think it really works well for the scene and keeps things soft. Assuming she is not an experienced model who is used to being nude in front of the camera, it's extremely difficult to get them to get them relaxed and communicating the emotion and feelings that you would want to generate with this type of shot. Overall I thinks it's very good but she does appear a bit tense. I would suggest softening the arms a bit so she's not squeezing her legs and also have her tilt her just slightly to one side. The slight head tilt can really make a huge difference.

This works for me as well. I think (not sure) my interest is held by the contrast between the soft, rounded features of th model and the rigid, unyielding geometry of the bed.
To improve: No way!! The tension of the positioning of her hands compliments the emotional content - very effectively.

The client may have considered it boudoir photography, but this is way better than boudoir. This has an emotional rawness and a compositional spareness that take it far into the realm of art photography. Let's put it this way - I would expect to see this image in a gallery, and be willing to pay money to hang it on my wall, and I'm not even the original customer. Great job!

Thank you thank you ... you guys have no idea how much I appreciate your input and feedback. My true intentions are in fine art black and white - which I am so happy that you see coming through in these images. She is not a model - just a beautiful young girl, who I hope will be happy with some of these images of her. I think "she" really comes out in some of these. I hope she will work with me again - I really enjoyed this.

I will be posting more soon. Again, thank you so much for your insight. It means the world to me.

Hi Katie - nice image. I like this quite a lot. Couple of very minor "suggestions". I would like to see the bed frame cropped to be the same on the right and left sides - perhaps including all of the vertical posts or at least crop them so they are the same. Second, as previously noted, try to have the model relax just before the exposure. Her left hand looks a little tense. It probably looks that way due the the angle of her thumb. Try having the model take a big breath and blow it out just before exposure and she will probably be a little more relaxed. Third, just a sliver of her facial features is excellent, but I would like to see just a tiny bit more.

This is effective just the way it is. True, it isn't the traditional boudior shot, but it projects more honest feelings than the stereotype glamour shot. Making it into such a photo would lessen its strength. The lighting is natural, as it should be for the mood. The photo does have one problem: it seems tilted to the right about 1/2 degree.

She should really be happy with these shots. The flat light in this case makes it work for me, not sure it would do with less flat lighting...

The pose is great as is the opposition between the lines in the background and her "lines".
