the image itself might not be your strongest but the way you've presented it is fantastic. i love the tone, i love the negative border, and i love the torn paper. really gives the old home a wonderful vintage feel. very nice work
Wow, I have to disagree with Robbiedillon, I think the old house is great, but am really turned off by the border/framing. Sorry, but it just dosen't work for me. The house is over powered by the weight of the frame/border.
unless you have done Platinum printing, digtal inhancing the borders to me is the same as doing digital printing and shooting. You can please the people on the site by just showing us the print instead of faking a alternate printed picture.
Michael, I'm not sure why you bring up the issue of digital anything, here. The only thing digital is the scan, and surely that can't be sacrificed in order to show the image, at least not here, on an internet forum.
Michael, it's pretty obvious to me that this is a silver print where he tore the edges of the paper like a deckled edge and the black is from either contact printing or enlarging the 4x5 neg without using something like an easel to block light from the surrounding paper thus forming a black frame around the image.
Nate, said so before in a PM, but I like this image. The black border is not a problem, but it may be a little too large--try covering it up with L-shaped pieces of paper and see how you like it best.
Jeremy, that's a good suggestion. I'm a bit 'torn' (sorry!) about the border. The house has a lot of emotional connections, on the "frazzled" end of the spectrum. So the border makes sense to me, if not taken as a documentary piece.
I think I'll just have to give it some time (and therefore space) before I'm able to make an obejctive decision.
