Doorways, Charcoal Chutes, Mont Alto, PA

Mont Alto State Forest in extreme southern PA borders the campus of the PSU Mont Alto campus. Upon exploring the very small state park my girlfriend and I noticed some ruins of the iron works that used to occupy the entire area. I'm not sure if the ruins sit on the campus or on state park lands. The building is a very interesting concrete building with about 4 or 5 bays and the ruins of the metal chutes above them. Between each bay was an arched doorway. By far one of the coolest local finds I've come across in a while!

Wonderful print, Brian! So crisp and compellingly simple in its composition.

This is great Brian. Really really nice

A great find, very nicely rendered. As a fellow Pennsyltuckian who is drawn to old infrastructure and industrial ruins, I had to look that up. A quick glance at Wikipedia shows some interesting history at that site. The first PA state park and a TB sanitarium among other things.

Your shot immediately grabbed my attention as I have a very similar composition of a similar structure taken at the remains of Lock Ridge Furnace, a hot blast iron works in Alburtis, PA (Allentown area). I called mine "Hall of Mirrors" because it reminded me of sitting in a barber shop as a kid and seeing this infinite stretch of frames as there were mirrors on opposite sides of the room.
