a west Texas goodbye

On friday night at 8:15pm my 13+year old Aussie shepherd/blue heeler, Maya died. I wrapped her in a mexican blanket and myself and two of my close friends immediately loaded her into the back of my truck and drove out to west Texas. She was put to rest in the desert at 1130am on saturday.

She was my best friend for over a third of my life... and all of hers.
The happiest I have ever seen her is when she and I would travel to west Texas and Big Bend to photograph and camp. Seemed a fitting place to bury her... and capturing her in a series of wet plates seemed equally fitting.

Almost too sad to bear. Pets: they provide us with love and companionship during their lifetime, and inevitably sadness at the end. I think I would have rather seen a couple of shots of hrt before she passed.

Sorry to hear about this, Matt. I had the same thing happen with my dog after 12 years. If I could have made it out West I would have done the same thing. Keep the good work coming......Tav

I'm sure she led a fantastic life, thanks to you, and as sad as her passing might be, she will always be with you. Thanks for sharing something so personal. The pictures are beautiful.

I've lost beloved pets and I've lost family and the line in between is much less than I ever imagined.

Awesome and quite dignified

I'd like to think I could've done this with pets I've lost but don't think I'd have the emotional srtrength for it.
