Yup. No originality on my part, just recording somebody else's art. What do you want, anyway? There are thousands upon thousands of images of these murals posted on the internet. The names of the original artists are readily available. 2 years ago I posted some photos taken from a longer distance, intending to show the ambiance of the location, and several people encouraged me to get in closer and record the detail. That is what I did this year. I only get to this place once a year at the most. Looking at the results, I can say that I need to get in even closer.
I live in the middle of the continent, and this place seems to have a real hold on the people who live there. Go into Barrio Logan and you see graffiti everywhere. Step into Chicano Park and there is no graffiti anywhere. These murals are sacred to the locals. The last time when I was shooting with a Mamiya tlr on a tripod, I was confronted by a local who was indignant that I would make money on the murals. My protestations that it wasn't for sale and nobody would buy my crap anyway didn't register with him. Reading up on the history of this place tells what a struggle it was to make it happen so it is little wonder they are so touchy about it.
