what I did was built a sliding box camera/ film holder just to see if i could do it. I got the idea from a book called Primative Photography (Focal Press) but felt his process would be too expensive. so i took the basic idea's in the publication and changed them to fit my $150 budget. That right I built a working 8x10 glass negative sliding box camera for under $150.

The lens glass is from a slide projector so my focal distance is not that great, especialy since the shortest film to lens distance is 16in. but i can use it like a macro. the objects need to be 9 to 10 in. away from the lens for me to selectively focus be sliding the one box that lays inside the other.

I use plexi-glass 8X10 window pane with a few coats of plastic clear primer, this allows the liquid light to stick to the plates. the liquid light is coated on the plates with a small plastic paint roller and allowed to dry. then after exposure they are developed as normal, set to dry, and ready to rip.

The way i designed the focus/ground glass holder ( which is just a sheet of glassine tapes to a plate) it also doubles as a contact sheet printer.

So there you have it

One bored guy
One big wood camera
One cool set of images.
