It's a combination of film, film developer, the Palladium emulsion on the paper, and the paper developer.

I really like this picture. My parents lived for years in Kearneysville, WV, which is just about 20 minutes west of Harper's Ferry, but have long since moved away. I have a photo of an old church ruin near their house 30 years ago that has a very similar quality to the light, which I just posted in my gallery. Thanks for the great memory!
