I can't ever recall seeing this kind of a sky in the U.K. This kind of streaky glow above a church conjures up a fire and brimstone preacher coming out on to the door and saying "Lord, I have seen the wondrous light"
It looks so far out of the way by U.K. standards of remoteness that it may have inspired the almost gospel song "Three Bells" about Jimmy Brown where the little congregation prays for guidance from above
Thank you for commenting, Peter. Always appreciated. All the times I spent in Scotland and England, I don't ever recall wispy clouds. The same for Southern Japan. Summer months, especially August and September. This one was shot in the month of September... Today? Forget it! We have one of the worst air quality indexes in the world, due to all the smoke coming up from California, Oregon, and Washington States! Nothing compared to what they are experiencing down there, though!
Bloody Hell Andrew I had no idea a fire that far South could be affecting your air quality! By the way I think you are confusing me with Pentax Pete who is from Essex and a very nice guy but my ancestors as you will know from previous correspondence probably chased Pete's from Prestonpans in 1745 along with his General Johnnie Cope
No problem, Andrew. This has to be worst extent of smoke that I can recall. For those on the West Coast within the fire zone it has to be a living hell
Hi Andrew:
You really have a way of photographing these old churches you visit! They always seem to have an aura around them. I'm not sure if worship is still being practiced in this old building, but I love how you didn't try to hide or mask the railing / walkway, or louvers missing from the towers but showed everything...
