Dave
This one doesn't tell the story like your other artist portraits. This might as well be a shot of your granny, not that there is anything wrong with that , but doesn't fit in to your wonderful series.
Thanks for the critique phil, I wanted this image to be viewed along side the other series of images just posted to put it this portrtait into some sort of context, do you still think it does not work bearing that in mind?
Dave
On its own it does not IMO fit into the portfolio/series because it is not a working portrait or rather it doesn't feel like a working portrait to me. Theres no studio or any of her artistic work to put it/her into context.
If you a) put a label on it or b) added it to the portfolio just of her studio/work then it would serve its purpose. Personally I feel you work on the series todate is better than that. Let the pictures tell the story like all the others do.
Cheers
Phill
Regardless of whether the portrait is that of an artist or somebody's granny, it's well done...interesting story written on the face/expression.
Her "life" is "worn" on her face...yet she looks ready for another 80+ years...youth, and contentment within is prevalent. Her clothes are not typical "granny" clothes, and this alone would make me think she is not of the "norm"...who cares if I don't get she is an artist? It makes me wonder...
Dave, I have no problem with this image as a portrait. In fact I like it, but my comments were more about whether it fitted into your 'Working Artist' portfolio.
