The eyes go well with the expression and suggest more of a story just the way they are. Following all the rules stops us from taking many of our best photos.
I like photographs that don't instantly give themselves up on first glance. I like being respected enough as a viewer that I'm not just allowed, but am expected to try to figure out the rest of the story on my own. I might get it right. Or I might get it wrong. But either way I'm being visually challenged by the photographer to dig a little bit deeper and think a little bit harder about what has been placed before me. It's a powerful way to hold a conversation without a single word being exchanged.
Thanks for the comments folks, I printed this a few months ago. The heat in the darkroom made it hard to control the temp of the developer giving me more contrast in this image. If printed with more controlled temps, results that would have been more appealing for a portrait.....softer tones my guess. As you know the scans never truly represent the actual image.Again, thanks for the comments!Steve
