^^ How true , in my misspent youth I used to hang out at night on the ruins at Tulum and gaze out over the Caribbean .
The only one you can still climb over (that I know of) are at Monte Alban , overlooking Oaxaca . Peter
Climbing those steps would be okay, but going back down...?!
Great image - simple but the contrast and detail really stood out, even in the thumbnail. I had hoped to go to this exact spot this past February, but had to cancel my plans. Maybe next year.
Chicken itza was crowded and commercialized. Still great to see but hard to get good photos. If you want to go, get a taxi instead of the tour. The tour takes you a bunch of places and tries to sell you stuff.
I think tulum is similar, but closer. I did not make it there. Does look neat because it is on the shore.
I heard that you can still climb on Coba. It is not as restored and so looks more ruined. From what I read, it had less people there as well.
Good advice! Actually, I had planned to do a road trip (car rental) throughout the Yucatan since tours (and public transportation) never work out photographically-speaking, as they always start too late and leave too early. I was planning on staying at the hotel on/near the grounds to get there first thing in the morning/be there in the evening when there are minimal or no people. I think a lot of the other sites (other than Tulum) are a lot less crowded since they don't make for easy day trips from the beach.
