I was standing about 50 ft. from Illinois Highway 9 about 2 miles East of Blandinsville, Illinois (pop. 800 and home of my darkroom and me!).

That's really lovely. I'd like to hear the background -- did you have a loaded Pentax at hand, saw the cloud and shot within seconds? Or had you watched this develop, taking shots over time? In either case: right place, right time, and fully prepared. Congrats.

I chase light a lot and love to drive the country roads and watch the sky. I always have both my Pentax and my 4x5 with me and ready to go. This time the evening was ending and we were headed towards home when I saw this. I set the tripod and shot 5 frames is quick succession, two with a red filter, two with a yellow and one with no filter. The entire sequence last about 10 minutes. The next morning the contact proved my first thought of the red worked the best, giving the feeling I wanted. Every once in a while you get a "keeper"!
