After a long hiatus doing other things, I finally got back to printing negatives made in Cuba this spring. I could not think of anyone more appropriate to welcome me back.
I love this, Dan. The color, the weathering, the black stripes... all the questions it raises - about the picture itself - the place - the time - even the merits. Very cool.
Thanks, Shawn. I appreciate that you got the significance. There are other, better maintained murasl of Che in Havana, but I think that this poorly maintained one is a nice metaphor for the inability of socialism to sustain itself.
Wonderful, iconic image of a mass murderer and serial killer. The world became a better place the day he was shot. Good riddance. I would love to piss on his grave.
Note that I do mean that my post about pissing on his grave was a poor, tasteless joke. However, it might not be all that untrue. This photo was wonderfully done and the commentary it makes "on the inability of communism to sustain itself over a period of time" is spot on and comes across exactly as intended. Even the toning adds force to the message. Dan, your whole series from Cuba has been fascinating to see as you you have put them out over the last several months.
