seriously interesting bokeh, you can see pine needles in the middle of the light blobs... i have no idea how to describe this.

I think that's a result of the plane of focus - the pine needles are not only in front and behind him but also directly above, so the few twigs that dangle down at or near the plane of focus remain sharp.
