This is a chapel on Morro do Cruzeiro, in the town of Miguel Calmon. When I had been there the previous year, the chapel was covered in graffiti, the biggest and most disturbing of which said: "Miguel Calmon's police only kills the black and the poor." Sometime in between my visits to this town the chapel was repainted, but engravings remain visible under the new paint.
The conflict of messages, to my eyes, makes this image. Anger, discrimination, outrage, rebellion, and religion.
The print holds more contrast in the highlights, making it easier to see the graffiti. This is as close as I could get it...
I would like to read your opinions on this image.
I HAVE UPLOADED AN EDITED VERSION THAT LOOKS A LITTLE CLOSER TO THE PRINT. I applied levels and unsharp mask to the hilghlight only, using the Quick Mask mode in PS <PURISTS
