Celtic Cross - Straight Negative

This is a straight negative scan (not inverted to it's typical black and white from the negative) of a shot I did earlier today at the graveyards downtown. This particular celtic cross caught my attention with the sun setting behind it. Originally I scaned it in normally, but upon seeing the negative, I thought in it's original captured format might yeild an interesting look.

How about a right-reading print EXCEPT for the cross. Might be tough to do purely analog but definately something The Gimp or Photoshop could do. Kick-out a new negative on transparency and print again.
