Catoctin Furnace

The remaining blast furnace stack at Catoctin Furnace, outside Thurmont, Maryland. There was an ironworks here dating back to the Revolutionary War period, making cannon and ammunition. It was also operated in part by slave labor, specifically highly skilled ironworkers imported from West Africa.
