Thank you everyone for your comments. I finished up with very few landscape shots of Sri Lanka but mainly portraits of people that I encountered. I'm not forward about approaching people and unless I get a positive response when I point at my camera and at them I'm inclined to move along. Eye contact with the person is sometimes the only method of communication when you travel.
