Thanks Tony and tomalophicon!
It's a picture of my second cousin. I have an ongoing long term project to make dignified portraits of as many of my relatives as I possibly can.
You know, Caroline, at age 13, is a pretty good photographer. I learned via my cousin that she had saved for over a year to buy a DSLR, doing chores around the house and so on, learning the value of hard work. She finally got the camera a few months ago. When I met her, right after New Year's Eve this year, I asked her what she liked to photograph, and she said plainly: 'Water'.
Now, tug at a second cousin's heart strings, but that just nearly got me to weep. I've been photographing water for years, with seemingly never ending fascination. Beyond that she's a wonderful young lady, thoughtful and clever. Proud of my cousin for raising her so well.
Beautiful picture. The intimate distance, with that odd combination of vulnerability and ironic confidence that teenage girls so often exhibit moves this into another realm. Still using an M2? Mine needs a trip to the shop.
