Canis lupus

A wolf, glimpsed through a trail camera. This image is part of a larger documentary series I’m working on about the wolf’s return to Denmark after its extinction in 1813.

Instead of using the digital file, I photographed the trail camera’s small preview screen with a 4×5 camera, effectively re-photographing the image at a much larger scale.

By doing this, the pixels become visible and physical as a structure.

The process is deliberate. It emphasises that our encounter with the wolf is mediated through technology. We don’t meet it directly, but through devices designed to observe, monitor, and frame it. At the same time, the image takes on a more ambiguous, almost mythical quality.

Amazing animals for sure. I have run into them in person while hunting in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. They watched me from a very long distance. Sitting on their butts and tilting their heads just like a dog would do. Then in a flash they were gone.
