Dave,
This is lovely but there two things I think would have made it a better print. The first is simple, crop just a hair off the right side to make the border between the leftmost part of the flower and the rightmost part of the flower the same. The second would require a reshoot, rotating the flower JUST A BIT to the right so that the dark curl of the flower's tip is surrounded by white. I've been enjoying your posts, keep up the good work. All the best. Shawn
I suggest rotating the flower so that the "hook" is more evident and give it more room on the left hand side. It looks a bit cramped to me. Otherwise I like the detail. Arum lilies and tulips are my favourite studies.
Thanks all for your comments. Shawn I think you are right this image does need a bit of cropping to the right thanks. Roy I should have thought about the hook when i took the shot but will pay attention to the little things next time round. Unfortunately a re-shoot is out of the question, that calla lily has long gone !
My 2 cents: the fact that the hook isn't accentuated draws my eye to the vein lines on the flower. Too dramatic a hook feature in the upper left might "distract" me from the fine lighting in the center. I do agree with Shawn's cropping comment -- balance it out.
