very nice control. I like how the shadows are darker and show no detail with would have detracted from the highlighted areas and made it less attractive.
I have a slight problem with the composition of this photo. Although this could be a fantastic object for a photograph, it does not completely satisfy me:
- if you intended it to be recognizable as a historic fire truck, the missing lower section of the truck doesn't help. It is not obvious what is the function of the object.
- if, more likely, you were attracted by lovely brass work on the top part of truck, I think it would give a stronger picture if you went for an "abstract", simplified type of composition. Or you might try to single out a specific detail that "reveals" the function of the object, and create a shot of that, instead of trying to capture the whole object.
So what are you trying to convey with this picture?
Thanks for the comments. Not really sure what I was trying for, I guess I'm like a crow and am attracted to shiny metal. When you are with tired family from a night of watching the Perseid Meteor Shower the night before leaves little time to think about the composition. After looking at it again, maybe using my 150mm would have been better to compress and focus in on some abstract part of this truck.
not to be picky, but you appear to have photographed a very nice horse-drawn, steam-powered fire engine. Technically not a truck. Sorry, the historical aspect of my profession rears its ugly head from time to time.
Have you ever noticed when someone says, "not to be picky..." they then proceed to be picky?
