Buck Creek Valley

Shot on a recent backpacking trip in the Washington Cascades. This is about 9 miles in from the trailhead. The original composition had more in the foreground, but a breeze foiled my plans. Unfortunately I still had to help set up camp and hang a bear bag before dark, so I couldn't hang around and wait for an elusive windless moment. This crop seems to work pretty well, I think. Do you? The print has a little more shadow detail than the scan picked up, especially in the lower right, but looks pretty close to this.

It looks great to me. I spent some time in seattle in '94 and loved heading out to the cascades for a few days of hiking and camping. It's a beautiful area that you have captured very well.

Excellent composition and tonal balance. There are so many images of the major mountains in the Cascades (Rainier, St. Helens, Hood, Three Sisters) that it is a pleasure to see another part of the range being so well captured.

If you think the wind was a problem there, try the west edge of the Columbia River Gorge.

I like the sun in the valley and the way each peak gets lighter as you move from the right to the left.

A big print framed for the wall here, I think.

Actually I like the composition.
