Breaking Down

An abandoned quarry maintenance building just south of Amherst, OH. Trying my "Torn Paper" effect. Tore up paper and glued to back of old print. Then processed in normal manner.

  1. Yes
Could you run that by me again? You tore up the paper, glued it to something, then "processed in the normal manner"? What processing was that? I would have thought you tore up the print and then put the pieces back and rephotographed it. It's an interesting effect, but I don't understand what processing would come at the end.

I like this image & technique. I'm guessing you did the following: 1- Tear up a sheet of unexposed photo paper (under safelight); 2- Glue pieces onto an other paper (still under safelight); 3- Expose under enlarger as a normal sheet of photo paper, develop, etc. Am I correct? What did I win? This way the pieces are placed rather randomly, but the image itself is correct positioned on every piece. I like it!!

Isn't there an app for that?

I'm rather late to the party on this one, but I disagree with grahamp somewhat.... but possibly that's because I'm looking at your image more metaphorically than aesthetically. That being said, possibly an image of an abandoned mental asylum would be even more fitting? Either way, I like the idea AND its execution. Looking through your gallery is interesting, enlightening and inspiring! Yep, I DEFINITELY like the way you've presented this!
